FAQ
ARE WE GOING ON A CANOE TRIP?
We won't be doing an overnight canoe trip, but we will be doing a short day trip on the lake by my home where everyone will have the opportunity to paddle stern or solo if they wish.
WILL WE BE LEARNING ABOUT WHITEWATER?
Unfortunately I am not certified in whitewater training so we will not be discussing that specifically. However, I will discuss many different paddle strokes, many of which would be used in moving water.
WHAT PRECAUTIONS WILL YOU BE TAKING DURING COVID?
As this workshop takes place 100% outside, we will follow social distancing protocols and stay 6 feet apart whenever possible. If we need to be in closer proximity, we will be wearing masks. I will also have hand sanitizer available and lysol spray for any communal areas like the outhouse.
WHAT GEAR CAN I BRING?
Think of this as your typical drive-up camping trip. You can bring anything that will fit in your car (including your own canoe if you want!). On the other hand, if you don't have certain pieces of gear, I will have extra items like plates, cutlery, and even tents!
CAN I BRING MY KAYAK?
A large piece of this workshop focuses on the canoe specifically. Different types of canoes, how to trim your canoe and how to paddle with a single blade. That being said, if there are other aspects of the weekend that you feel would be beneficial and you aren't so concerned about the canoeing technique specifically, then you are more than welcome to bring your kayak and use that for the paddling portion of the weekend.
ARE THERE WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS?
No weight restrictions, I want people of all shapes and sizes to come out and learn that they too can paddle and portage a canoe!
DO I NEED TO RENT GEAR?
I'm aiming to not have anyone have to rent gear. I will be providing the canoes, I also have paddles and life jackets for those who don't have their own. Otherwise, because it is "drive-up camping" style, you shouldn't need too much camping specific gear.
WHAT AGE GROUP ARE YOU AIMING FOR?
Anyone between the ages of 18 to 99! But seriously, I am happy to see any and all age groups come out and give it a try. For those under the age of 18 I ask that they attend with a parent or guardian.
ARE THERE CARPOOLING OPTIONS FOR THOSE COMING FROM THE CITY?
I don't have any transportation specifically arranged, but I can put out a message to others to see if anyone is able to carpool.
